Welcome to Italia- Shut up and Eat

Just some fun pieces of Italy I wanted to share with you to make you laugh! Enjoy!

Reasons to Love Italy:

1. You can enjoy wine you never knew existed.

2. The rush you get standing in front of 50 flavors of gelato having to pick just one! But, you can't go wrong!

3. Trailing an old lady at the market buying whatever she buys because you don't know what anything is.

4. The idea that a pastry filled with creme/nutella/chocolate and a cappuccino constitutes breakfast.

5. House wine- no need to order anything else. And often just served in a juice glass!

6. Pasta tastes better with a beautiful view.

7. You can count the number of ingredients in every dish on one hand.

8. When you hear a Vespa, you know you can only be one place on earth!

Gelato vs. Ice cream

1. Gelato is richer and denser because less air is churned into it.

2. Served at a warmer temperature than ice cream so it can melt in your mouth right away.

3. It has lower fat because it has half the butterfat of ice cream.

Thoughts on America

If you are anything like me you are curious about the rest of the world's thoughts on America. I watch fellow Americans in other countries and often find myself hiding my face and pretending not to know them, even though I don't know them... "Oh Ze Americans." I say in my best french accent, why french I have no idea. "They are tres tres rude, so spoiled, they are je ne sais pas, ignorant!"

But I finally got the chance to ask someone. This man, to my surprise, told me that Italians think, simply, that Americans have it easy. That we have this simple life free of real life problems. I found this interesting and took it upon myself to clear this up. I told the man that if by easy you mean comfortable, then yes, the majority of Americans have way more than they would ever need and are extremely comfortable. But easy? Real life problems? To me, the most difficult problems are those that cannot be removed from the human existence; growing old, death, sadness, finding faith, learning to make peace with your very existence and what to do with it. Part of the human condition is facing adversities no matter what they are or where you are, and the parts of our society that are "easy" do not make us any happier, that is for sure. They spend all their time watching our movies and media, and since those things are not an accurate representation of our lives, I see why they think this, and heck, maybe at the end of the day our lives are fairly easy, but I didn't see their way of life as being any more difficult.

Blog Synopsis

I used to think life was about finding yourself, so....I began looking. When that was overwhelming and disconcerting, I developed a new theory that life is about creating the person you want to be. That life is about constantly growing and bettering yourself. With both of these theories traveling and seeing the world seemed like a must to me. Thus I developed this blog to tell of my experiences, the things I learn, and my progress on creating myself.

My photo
I am a lot of things, sometimes it drives me insane, and I think too much, but at the end of the day I am happy with who I am. I spend most of my time trying to understand this life, creating the person I would like to be, and learning. I always appreciate the little things, and I try to be better than, and to make better, the bad things.
